Image of confluens of sinuses

AC = Anastomotic channel; DL = Apposition of dural layers; DR Projecting dural ridges; LTS = Left transverse sinus; RTS = Right transverse sinus; SS = Straight Sinus; SSS = Superior sagittal sinus.

Conventionalized diagrams of the 4 major types of sinus systems.

Explanation of the conventional representation for all figures is given in the upper center hypothetical diagram, where the arrow indicate the direction of blood flow in life and of fluid flow under experimental conditions.

Type 1 (1A, 1B): Conventionalized diagrams of variations in sinus systems of subtypes 1A and 1B. Figures at the cut extremities of the sinuses are cross-sectional areas in square milimeters.

Type 2 (2): Conventionalized diagrams of variations in sinus systems of type 2.

Type 3 (3): Conventionalized diagrams of variations in sinus systems of type 3. Dotted lines in lower left figure represent a partially obliterated channel.

Type 4 (4): Conventionalized diagrams of variations in sinus systems of type 4.
