Thoracic portion of the azygos venous pattern. A diagrammatic presentation of the twenty-one different types of arrangement found in 200 cadavers (100 W, 100 M). Types arranged in several structural sets, passing from the left to right, as indicated by arrows. The embryonic type was adapted from an adult case reported by Mutel and Fourché. The criteria for the division of the types into three groups, as indicated, rational. D - double column types; T - transitional types; S - single column types.
