Superficial Cervical Nerve

Ronald A. Bergman, PhD
Adel K. Afifi, MD, MS
Ryosuke Miyauchi, MD

Peer Review Status: Internally Peer Reviewed

Instead of a single nerve, the superficial cervical may have two or more branches arising from the cervical plexus

The nerve may arise solely from the third or from the third and fourth cervical nerves.

In its course in the neck it sometimes passes through an annulus in the external jugular.
