This section passes through the distal phalanx of the thumb (2). The thumbnail (4) and nail bed (3) can be identified. The middle three digits are still attached but the fifth digit is now separated, with the section passing through the proximal phalanx (22). The fibrous digital sheaths are well seen (6, 20, 26).
